Comedy Acts on the night:

Cally Beaton –

Twitter: @callybeaton

Cally Beaton has stood out quickly since she became a regular on the UK comedy circuit last year. She is London-based, and has performed extensively around the UK and also in the U.S. (New York and Miami). She is a regular winner of local open mic nights, including being the recipient of the legendary Comedy Virgins trophy on several occasions, and is currently competing in various national competitions, including Golden Jester, SYTYF and Funny Women.  Her natural stagecraft and warm persona see her deliver intelligent, unique, compelling stand-up, with consistent laugh out loud and punchline-rich moments. She relishes engaging with live audiences and enjoys nothing more than turning gender stereotypes on their head. She is awesomely funny. And modest too.

Cally has performed at many famous, and indeed infamous, comedy nights including: Angel Comedy; Up The Creek; Komedia; Downstairs at King’s Head; Monkey Business; Rabbit in the Headlights; G&B Comedy; We Are Funny project; MY Comedy (formerly Laughing Cows); Purple Turtle; Laughing Buddha, Village Lantern (NYC); Artistic Vibes (Miami). She has also performed at various charity benefits including Water Aid at The Convenience, Hackney and Viva La Vulva, an FGM awareness night, over 500 tickets sold out, where she opened for Kate Smurthwaite. She has also appeared as a guest on Hoxton Radio.

She is currently working on her first one-woman show: Cally Beaton. Sex.Worker. – a comedic exploration of how, 50 years after bra-burning, modern women still end up being both the wife and the worker, despite the illusion of free choice and equality. Using a range of jokes, funny anecdotes, pint-sized polemics and wry observations, the show will consider: In what way are women continuing to pay for their sex? What is the price of “having it all” – home, sex and career? And ultimately, though the various forks in the road of each woman’s life may look like choice, is the female path as prescribed as it ever was?

Nick Elleray –

Nick Elleray is a comic based in London. Originally from Australia, he was lured into a long-term (some might say Oedipal) relationship with the motherland and has lived in the UK since 1997.

“Nick Elleray is a classy act, turning the loud Aussie stereotype on its head with an aridly dry set delivered in quiet, measured style.”
Steve Bennett, Chortle

“…a sound that is both refreshing and unique.” – Lindsey Online Reviews

Pure dedication and determination led to the birth of K.G. Gerrald would face tough decisions and life struggles whilst keeping up with his studies, and creating music. George would wake up at 4am every morning to go to work and make ends meet, then spend his evenings jamming with Gerrald until late at night, before going back home to get some sleep before his next shift. This was back in August 2013. It was only this year when K.G finally revealed themselves to the public.
“Gerrald and I gave up everything to do this. We’ve both had our previous successes in music, but this is by far the best music I’ve ever written” says guitarist/producer George.
“It’s given me an opportunity to work on a lot of different sounds and make me a better rapper” says rapper/producer Gerrald.

Known for their hard-work ethic and experimental nature, fusing Nigerian and British culture, K.G are looking to make a name for themselves in 2015.

Sketch man –

26 year old South London grime artist Sketchman, aka Charles Hazell, has announced the release of Paramount as the first of three singles from forthcoming album Nothing Is Enough. This comes after extensive performance of the track, to positive reviews, from the cream of London’s live music venues.

The song is currently available for pre-order from iTunes, or by texting the word PARAMOUNT to 85888. Upon its release on August 28th, Paramount will be available from all online music stores. The song is UK & Ireland Chart registered, with all pre-orders counting towards first week sales.

The release, on Sketchman’s own Uncle Albert Records, comes after his previous efforts achieved nationwide radio airplay – namely a week-long playlisting, backed by BBC Introducing on Radio 1Xtra. This culminated in a live telephone interview with DJ Target – during which, Sketchman described the new album as “more story telling… real life experience”, elaborating that it would document his journey as an independent artist in the music industry.

Paramount sees Sketchman deliver multisyllabic rhyming, over his signature blend of live instruments and electronic drum patterns. Aside from lead vocal and production from Sketchman, it features additional vocals and 12-sting acoustic guitar from singer/songwriter Chloe Ray. It also features bass guitar from Sam NSQ and has been mixed and mastered by veteran sound engineer Danny C.

Paramount is largely about the escape to be had through creative lyric writing, and exploring one’s imagination. It will serve as an apt introduction to Nothing Is Enough, where more of the same can be expected. The lyrics focus around the track’s title, either in reference to ‘matters of the utmost importance’ as the word’s more obvious definition suggests, or in reference to the popular colloquialism ‘peak’, as Sketchman speaks about items of severity, for better or worse.

The music video has been shot at Square One Studio in Reigate, with director Chas Appeti. It shows artists expressing themselves through their chosen creative mediums – including street dance, graffiti art and music. Its release is expected to coincide with that of the single.
